Crickey I wouldnt buy it if it was me, the snake doesnt require uv, its a royal he needs to be in the dark not in the light, royals tend to hide during the day & come out as & when if food passes them by. Ah well glad I dont use uv for my royals.

And no I wasnt nosing around im into royals already have a fair lot. So how is looking at an ad being nosey
It may not NEED UV, but it certainly won't harm the snake, indeed it might even encourage basking behaviour during the day, meaning that you will see the animal more. If there are enough hides and cover then the animal can get away from the UV, and its fine... I'm pretty sure there is some degree of UV light in Africa, which is their natural habitat, so I'm sure they can deal with it.

And I agree with Ern, it wasn't really your business to be TUT TUTing the seller because he chose to house his snake with UV, particularly with no interest in buying. TUT TUT.

Oh dear we have got a temper, If you claim your not stupid then why you doing it. I was just advising you that royals do NOT need lights or UV, you cant be much of a reptile lover to ruin a royals life with such stupid things as uv & lighting. TUT TUT

Maybe the guy went into a reptile shop, saw the royal, wanted it and brought the set up as well. Perhaps the shop took the opportunity of increasing its sales figures. Wouldn't be the first time its happened.....

If the buyer wants to, they can always remove the UV.

Doesn't excuse the offence emails though.

chances are he got it from the shop in hornchurch and that guy knows what he's doing with royals so probably said to him have a low % UV for display lighting.

Also, in complete honesty...if someone e-mailed me on my ad telling me what i should and should not do with the snake and getting shirty with me when it seems they don't plan to buy i'd get a strop on too.

If someone had emailed me like that over something I was advertising for sale, I am afraid to say my reaction would have been pretty similar to Alex's.

I would have instantly thought 'keyboard warrior'.

Ok, I probably wouldn't have used swear words in my reply, but it wouldn't have been a very polite reply..

If I wasnt interested in purchasing the royal I wouldnt have looked at the ad, but I was interested until I saw the uv & he was selling the snake with uv, that is what brought up warning signs to me. Ok so youre all entitled to your opinions, so am I. Ok maybe I worded my reply to him when I first contacted him, but his 2nd reply was in my opinion out of order.
If I saw a snake on here with uv being sold ok fine for the picture but IMO not for selling & keeping the uv.

Anyhow we all learn, and as seller stated the uv was just for picture purposes, so why is he selling uv with snake ??

I use red bulbs for my snakes and Im not too sure he has a cage around the uv to stop the snake burning itself.

RE: incrisis my responce to the seller you have put in bold, he never replied to it. As id blocked him, I wasnt prepared to have more swear words sent to me again. And use of such language to anyone is not necessary unless.

There is something to be said for the keyboard culture, everyone feels compelled to have their say, thats what forums are for, not classified sites, some people purposely stay away form advertising on forums purely because they cant be bothered with discussions about their sale that inevitably come on a forum.
completely agree

Sorry but your in the wrong.
Royals dont NEED uv correct...but it doesnt harm them at all. I am sure Saedcantas will tell you about environment enrichment and the possitives it can have aswell.

Your first e-mail to him was un-needed and rude.
Royals need heat, they dont NEED a heatmat, they can have ceramics...but you didnt mention that. royals dont NEED greenery but you told him they did. Hes trying to sell a whole setup, so of course hes going to sell it all, UV at a low percentage wont kill it. I know a few keepers that use UV lighting in there enclosures as they have live plants...i also use normal lights in some of mine to creat light cycles for breeding.

I think you were completely out of control in those e-mails...saying hes ruining his animals life and doesnt care for it.

i think he was right in how he replied. it seemed you were the one annoying him and getting him to bite the bait
