Don't mean to be rude but that is an extremely misguided comment. It's what annoys me about forums, newcomers to the hobby read this kind of stuff and go away knowing no better. UVB is not just about D3 synthesis, and UVA an appetite stimulent and something that promotes health/vigour whilst bringing the best out of their colouration, but it also helps to maintain correct photoperiods as well as other psychological and physical benefits too - many of which i'm sure are not fully known to mankind.... yet.

tell you what mate.... its alot more money and time with wc animals.

But it also annoys me how some people discourage kids from keeping snakes,frogs and so on,,,,come on,how many of use used to pond dip tadpoles as kids and keep them in jamjars....never did us any harm...and the kids that wanna do it are discouraged and the other half dont care about our own wildlife but just want HET this and 66% that

[QUOTE=Cockys Royals;5109095]

If you claim your not stupid then why you doing it. I was just advising you that royals do NOT need lights or UV, you cant be much of a reptile lover to ruin a royals life with such stupid things as uv & lighting. TUT TUT

Snakes do NOT require uv lighting, in fact snakes do not require any lighting what so ever.. All Royals need is plenty hiding places, lots greenery Heat mat thermostat. Feed once a week thats it. Oh and water bowl so they can bathe in. Hope this helps.

yet you say you use light bulbs yourself (red)

theres nothing wrong with using them now whos the stupid 1

Low level UV E.G 2% or even higher with hides no issues as mentioned infact i've fixed a lot of deformed babies with UV and if the tubes set at the top of the viv its even less of an issues our UV requiring lizard species have lowered tubes for a reason.

My old guys breed into the late twenties and do get the odd blast of UV afer laying must suit them.

Its far to easy these days to look on google lots of folks on here have years of experience hands on not the internet kind about time they got listened too.

The bottom line is, in the wild (I'll let you in on a secret here) - where royals originally came from - there was light! And sometimes, if they were hungry, or too cold, they went into it!

And I should think the african sun is 50x more potent that a 0.2 UV tube.
