Default Bloody BCC Regurging aarrgghh

Most of you know I have a pair of Brazillian BCC

The male is eating and digesting fine. The female ate and digested her first meal fine but has regurged the last 2

I left her 2 weeks after the first regurge and raised the temps a bit, another regurge

This time I am going to leave her 4 weeks, have raised the temps to 92*F as well................hope that works

no mate all she had was a small mouse, and I mean small! exact same as the male has had, and he has been fine. Second time I gave her the smallest small mouse I could find in the freezer, I will give her just a small fuzzy are even a pinkie next time.

This can be a serious issue with Bcc. What is your ambient. Remember that Bcc often sit a cooler temperatures than Colombians and are a lot mroe sensitive to temperatures.

Here is what I would do. Drop the cage to an ambient of 84oF, maintain a humidity of around 80%. After 1 month, yes, one month, offer the snake a pink mouse (yes, a pink mouse). If the snake keeps this down, 2 weeks later offer a second pink mouse. Do this for 2 months, then, move up to a very small pink rat. The reason I say pink mouse and rat is to minimize irritation on the gut. The fur will be an issue for digestion as the snake has esentially lost its "good" bacteria in the gut. The gut flora is now drastically diminished. Offering pink mice for two months will allow this to build up again to good levels and this should allow the snake after two to three months to digest a pink rat. Again, every 2 to 3 weeks.

If you offer something too big, which in my opinion here is a fluff mouse, you are very likely to cause another regurgitation. With each regurgitation you are causing 2 things. First is the near complete loss of the gut flora, preventing any further digestion, and two, the regurgitation will lead to a thickening of the gut lining, which itself will lead to a reduction in the ability to produce digestive enzymes and the reduced ability absorb the little food that is digested through the gut walls.

Take your time, leave the snake a month, and start with pink mice. DO NOT BE TEMPTED to feed larger items and too soon. It will lead to heartache for you and likely death of the snake in a short time.

Hi Warren,

Thanks for the advice, I am leaving her for a month now, and yes was toying between a pinkie and a fuzzy, but I will opt for the pinkie for a couple of feeds.

Re the temps, they are in tubs at the moment, the ambient temps are around 75* and the basking area was around 88*. The odd thing is that the male was inadvertantly at higher temps, and he is the one that is digesting fine. The reason he was at higher temps than I realised was I have just found that the thermometer was faulty. I have just bought some new thermometers, when I do this I check them against one I already have running just to make sure they are giving good readings. Doing this I found that that my existing thermometer was infact giving false readings. The males basking area has infact been around 95* Now clearly this is higher than generally recommended for BCC however as he is the one digesting well I am loathed to drop the temps. Given that these are North Brazilian BCC and are basically equatorial, logic is saying that they would need temperatures not disimilar to Colombians? I have at the moment raised the females basking temp to 95* to match the males conditions.
