I have a FWC and have done quite a bit of research on their venom. Basically their venom is surprisingly potent, with an LD50 level of 2 ml/kg (which is more than many crotalids). However, they have poor venom delivery system (and must chew for a considerable amount of time to envenomate) and have a very low venom yield (a fraction of the amount of front fanged species). As such they are not significantly dangerous, although you really don't want to get bitten, and there have been no reported deaths. They can be quite temperamental, but most of it is bluff. They will strike if really provoked though.

Not necessarily, a FWC was my first temperamental snake. And I haven't been bitten by him yet. I think that they are actually much better snakes, to keep, than people give them credit for. As long as you handle them relatively often they can be calmed down, except when they are still in the viv. Mine is extremely viv defensive, but when out he is as good as a corn snake!

it is said to be as potent as the timber rattle but has a poor delivery system. not a snake to play around with or to handle. treat it as a snake that as the potential to mess you up.

I would say that you can handle them, but it is always best to get them out of the viv with a hook. Personally I free handle mine, once I have got it out of the viv. However I have had the snake for a while now and have slowly got it used to handling. At the start I just used a hook. Fortunately they prefer to hood up and tail whip rather than bite.

But I do give my FWC the respect it deserves, as a potential danerous animal.

i disagree. these snake shouldn't be handled or treated like other snakes. they are potentially dangerous .

As someone who has been bitten by a FWC, i do respect these snakes, but for me personally it wasnt that bad, hurt and swelled abit but no serious ill effects tbh. I'd go with what jack W said, hook em out the cage, but after that their fine to freehandle
