Default Rough/Smooth Green Snakes?

Hi all,

I'm looking to set up a viv for a pair of these, I've read that they're tricky to keep, and that WC ones are a waist of time. It will effectively be my fist snake, i kept a corn a wile ago, but i was 10 and didn't give it much attention, so took it back to the shop.... Wish i hadn't now, but oh well.

All i know about these is that they need UV, eat insects (are crickets with vitamin powder OK?), and like to climb. I'm going to build a viv with a 2x1ft base, as high as it needs to be So, what do i need to know?

ill aim to make the viv very naturalistic, but that should work well with these

Many thanks,
Angus

OK, this is 'received wisdom' rather than direct experience, but some of it might be useful. Firstly, hardly anyone is breeding them (if anyone actually is, they are likely to be on this site, lol), so wild-caught is likely what you'd get. Secondly, they are VERY nervy- the more hiding places and cover on all levels you can give them, the better. Cultured crickets on their own are not enough- the more wild-caught insects etc you can give them, the better- although I'm told you shouldn't overdo spiders (why? Dunno). In short, they're not the easiest snakes to start off with, but if you research as widely as possible, you might get lucky.

Yep have to admit that I've never had much success keeping these snakes and finally gave up after 2 attempts at keeping them. Can't really advise much as I did pretty much the same as what your going to be doing but good luck with them.

mines going well at the moment not seen him eat in a while but the crickets are disspearing and he's defo drinking so he's going good but i guess i got lucky with mine maybe it's coz i called him/her shamrock hey? I spent ages getting slugs and worms and other criters and he turned his nose up at all of them so i put em back outside i'll try him again sometime with them. They don't grow massive but he loves to climb and hide in his fake plant he makes me have to squint to see him they are lovely snakes.
