anyone else have this prob?

i have ceramic bulb, but the guard still gets rather hot at the bottom (my temps are right) there is 2in clearance from bottom of bulb to guard and 1in around the edges

I never use the smaller bulb guards because of this. Try using a larger bulb guard.

I agree i always use the longer guards for that reason

The hight of mine is roughly 28-32cm.

do you think i could get a smaller bulb im currently using a 150w for 3ft viv or best to get larger guard
