Default retile rescue rehoming fees

why is it that most rescues dont publish their rehoming fees? wouldnt it be better to publish them so people dont think they are making a few quid on the side? i always thought it was a standard fee, and if you wanted to donate alittle more then you could. even if it was a standard fee for each species i.e snake, lizard, tort and so on having a set rehoming fee. i mean at the end of the day i know rescues need all the cash they can get but isnt it more important to find the animal a new secure home rather than out price any potential new keepers?? iv done my bit for rescues in the past and present and know first hand how hard they work but lately iv become abit warey of them with all the bad press and stories. only the other week i spent hours driving all over the northwest to help a rescue and the turn out was amazing so i know there are some good recues out there. any rescues that read this are welcome to comment on this and before any mud slinging starts this is not an attempt to single out any rescue or flame anyone imperticular. its just a simple question so please DO NOT NAME ANY RESCUE

if anyone has been to a rescue and they have tried to charge you a rediculous amount for an animal let us know

im rehomming 2 snakes from a rescue place. The gentleman thats bringing them over wednesday was really nice. As far as im aware the fees are there to stop any free-bee hunters, as ive heard stories of people "rescueing" animals and putting them in a worse situation than they already were. And horrible as it sounds, there are those that would take in a free-bee animal purely with the idea of breeding it to death, sadly it happens and i think they try to discourgae this with fees. However, im not suggesting this is the reason nor the solution in 100% of cases.
In the case of the 2 snakes im taking in, the fees were clearly advertised, had they not been, i would of asked, but it certainly wouldnt of been one of the first questions as i was more intrested in the animals rather than what i would have to pay.

i understand why the fee's are there. im just wondering why they dont publish them on there web sites. im not expecting the rescues to give away the animals but a set fee [or fee's] clearly displayed on their site would discourage anyone saying that they are clearly making money rather than rehoming. thats what im getting at.

p.s. well done you for rehoming a couple

im so excited! they are both bootiful. i was lucky, the person im getting them from was very upfront about both the fee and the health of the snakes.
it may be somthing to do with the fact that they are hopping if people arent genuinely intrested they wont bother to ask. id feel really embarressed for asking a rehomming fee price, if i knew i wasnt prepared to pay much in the first place.
