Default I think my royal has mites???

can anyone help me!!

i think my baby royal has mites, i have been disinfecting and cleaning his rub everyday and bathing him regually aswell.

I was pulling little black bits of him everyday and just thort it was bits of the bark but it turns out that the bark was infested in them, so i have ditched that and bought him a new hide but i am still finding them on him.

Does anone have any advice on what to use that will get rid of them?

Any advice appriciated.

Ditch all the substrate in the rub and just use paper for the time being. Keep as little decor in there as possible! Bleach everything in his hide then soak in boiling water for a bit.. Keep doing this for a bit and treat him with mite treatment should be alright!! I had the same problem but I boil the bark before i put it in the viv now!!

Ditch the hides, best thing is to use just newspaper and a water bowl and thats it. Bath the snake everyday for half hour or more, hold the head under the water for roughly 20 seconds regularly and then after the bath rub olive oil onto the snake (avoiding the head), place snake in a seperat empty rub (no newspaper) for half hour, then wipe the snake down with kitchen roll to remove the excess and then place back into original rub. This method seems to be effective for me and stops the need for chemicals. Repeat every 3 days for a few weeks.

you should be aware though, that using olive oil will lead to bad future sheds.

I used this method on a BCI that had mites, I only had the BCI on boxing day... mites all gone, perfect shed yesterday in one whole piece. Best shed out of the 2 sheds he has had with me.

I dont use it excessively, just enough to prevent the mites from getting a good grip. He is now back to normal baths.

I also use a little baby bath in the bath with him, just enough to reduce surface tension (not enough to produce many if any bubbles) so if there is an odd mite or 2 it cant climb back on the snake in the water.

Olive oil + weeky or so disinfecting worked when I was youngling but we also had the horror of cut up pieces of vapona back then too, the modern systemics in the sticky are probably far better and safer.
