Default Lights at night!

Can snakes see red light?

Sorry if this has been covered a billion times but what is the latest view on this?

I want to try and get away from heatmats, what do you use at night?

Cheers, Bobby

I think they probably can see something with the red bulbs, but for some reason it doesnt seem to stress them, i currently have my rat snake with a red bulb and dimmer stat and hes eating etc fine. If you want away from heatmats, have you considered ceramics?

What kind of wattage do you think I would need to heat a 4x2x2?
(ceramic or red bulb!)

Cheers mate

Well, with ceramics you would use a pulse stat, so minimum i would say 100w, but i always go higher cause the stat controls it for you anyway. Ive got a 75w red bulb in a 3ftx18inchx18inch and thats working great, but a 4x2x2....would obviously need more. To be honest mate if i was heating a viv that size id use ceramics on a pulse stat, or a microclimate ahs, which is a ceramic heater with a pulse stat built in, you can pick them up for anywhere between £80 - £100. But if you do your own ceramic/stat combo it will work out cheaper.

lol

you lot are a bad influence

No, I want a Coastal. i think the viv size will end-up somewhere in the middle. Im going to buy a hatchling and put it in a RUB and then decide how big the final viv is going to be, then I need to decide if I want to breed them in the future

Im clueless about ceramics though, where will I find all the correct bits and pieces and what exactly will I need?

Cheers for your help mate!
