I would leave her in her viv in future. I feed all my big snakes in their vivs except for when they're together for breeding but luckily my boas are used to it and behave themselves. It's easy with smaller snakes as I just hold neck and tail to lift them back.

We mat feed two of our snakes, the BRB is new to us so she gets it slung into the viv, she's bedded on newspaper as thats was the previous owner used(i'm not keen on it tho). Elvis the cali king has decided he doesn't like being mat fed now though, so now we put paperdown over his sub and remove the paper afterwards. Impaction was always the issue for us.With Rigga, the rescue snake, it's completely different. He is most def my snake, hisses and strikes at my OH and I get him out the viv, show him the food and he eats it whilst still wrapped around my hand. I have to sit there for as long as he takes to eat it. Then he wraps the rest of himself round me and I gently pop him home. We don't know what they used to do with him but he only got fed if and when they could be bothered so you'd think he'd be more agressive with his feeding times. I suppose it shows that what works for 1 snake isn't always going to work for others.

Yup, snakes can tell the difference between something that it can eat and something it can't. However have heard it can confuse the snake if the keeper has been handling a prey item beforehand...

You know, i never got other snakes out to feed but the man in the pet shop said it was standard practice and made me feel bad for never doing it so i tried......
The man is an idiot... It will be much better practise if you feed in the viv, for you and the snake, when he is massive you want to be the other side of the glass when food is on his mind! Go back to the pet shop and make that plonker feel bad for trying to get you into dangerous practices

I think i am going to see him about it. I dont like to cause confrontation but i feel he has ruined my relationship with my snake (that sounds pathetic i know), but she was being an absolute angel before this. I have decided to leave her alone for the weekend (which is almost unbearable) and then handle her sunday night again. Do think i have made permenant damage? Im so worried! Do snakes remember these things?

I wish id just stuck to what i normally do!! Why did i feel the need to change something that didnt need changing?!?

sounds like you're more stressed than the snake! seriously tho if she's got an owner as devoted as you seem i'm sure she'll get back on track. sounds like a bad experience caused by a pillock, i'm sure she'll forgive and forget but feeding in the viv certainly seems to be the consensus opinion on the best way forward. i've not got experience with the big snakes but i've had bad things happen with my royals and my corns that i thought would scar them for life but they do seem to get over it, tho it may take a little while and a little tlc

I only feed out of the tub if they're fussy feeders and i'm using a much smaller tub to feed, so once they've done the smaller tub just gets popped lid off in the main tub, no handling required.
