Actually, I have been bitten once. By a Royal who hit the rat and went straight through it to my thumb...

The only reason I asked is because there is a false (by my opinion only) theory going around that feeding out of the viv makes a snake less likely to bite so I was just wandering if that was anybodys reason.

I feed out of the viv because I treat my substrate with provent-a-mite so don't want to run the risk of the snake ingesting any

Othello refuses to feed out of his hide never mind his RUB!!!

I have to dangle it just outside the 'door' to his hide and he strikes from inside, there is no way I can see his head from above, so he makes me jump everytime because I can't see him coming!

He's on paper so though so no chance of stray substrate!

It's a false theory from my experience.

Also, like most people point out - many royals won't feed if you disturb them on feeding day. It can take some of mine a few days after being handled to feed.

I feed all mine outside the viv in a plastic tub! I find its a good time to check everything is ok in the viv as when they are eating its the only time they are out and I am not holding them. (hope that makes sense lol)
