Default Caution- Anyone buying baby green annies.

I'm not going to mention names, as I'm not sure it's my place to do so. But I just wanted to make sure any potential buyers for baby greens were aware..

You may've read on another thread of mine about an R.I issue I've had with my new female annie. Well when I got her, my mate also got a male both had infections. At the time, I daftly didn't pick up on the problem, caught up in the moment etc. Noticed it as soon as we switched them in to rubs.

Anyway, obviously unhappy, we contacted the bloke about the problem. In the end he offered to trade them for new animals, if we went back up to him this evening. So after a 150 mile journey got there and the new "healthy" snakes for us to take, were actually showing signs of ri, one really badly.

A few of these have already been sold, I also imagine the rest will be sold regardless.

I'm not out to cause trouble, or boycott sales of them. I just advising people to just check, (better than I originally did) if buying baby green condas. I don't want anyone else to be lumbered with vet bills etc.

Anyway, a valuble lesson learned for me this week.

Yes, I have the same. They are imports, and evidently not the finest imports. However, with a little work, I'll get my boy up and rocking with little problem.

I will be in contact with the Shop Owner, but not because I am angry. After all, CF can easily be effectively WC, and with WC buyer beware. If you choose to take on a non-CB snake, be aware of the risks and problems and be prepared to deal with accordingly.

Yeah we were told it was a captive farmed before (the snake mentioned above) we bought him so we knew the risks, we are doing all we can at the moment so fingers crossed.

Ah, we were told cb and that no others have had any problem, despite the others clearly sounding like a dogs toy!.. Nevermind, just wanted to highlight it... Off to the vet again today...joy..

The joyous hazards of Captive farmed snakes.

We all miss things when caught up in the excitement of buying a new snake

Hope they get over their R.I's, they should be fine, the seller's animals are usually top-notch.

With green anacondas when someone claims they are cb i would always ask to see pictures of the parents and ask who bred them-very few people actually breed them here. However having said that most cf/wc greens are fine and adapt to captivity very easily.Over the years i have had loads of imports from Guyana and only very rarely had problems-so with greens generally there is not that much diff between cb and wc-but they are cheap to buy so wc should not be going for similar prices as cb.

Dont get me wrong but if its 150 miles there....and 150 miles back.,,...then thats 300 miles...now thats got to cost a fair bit of fuel?

Surely if a guy sold you 2 annies with RI then you must realise the chances of these snakes getting treated is slim....plus the fuel money could have been spent on vet treatment for the snakes? from the sound of it it was mild RI...so you could have just used my method and cured them
Because it looks like now your 300 miles out of money and time..and now you have 2 sick snakes aswell

well no not really, the cost of the fuel is near nothing when compared to what the vets is costing.. Anyway the point of the thread wasn't to have the whole, "you should've done this, why did you do that?!" it was clearly just to highlight it to others who are buying them... End of...
