Oh wow just because Wildlifewarrior has a tame snake it means that everyones will be tame...Rofl Not everyone has the confidence willwar has. Not everyone are so experienced. If the OP was like Wilwar he wouldn't of asked in the first place, so you shouldn't ridicule someone for saying that a large scrub is a 3 man snake. Some people like to have a second handler (which is common sense) and someone else incase things go wrong. Its people like you who give new snake keepers the wrong perspective.

Don't forget that even a 12 foot Burmese Python is a huge snake- I've had my 12 foot Burmese out alongside a 9 foot Pimbura cross, and he absolutely dwarfs it. Put if you were to put a 15 foot female Burmese alongside my male, he would look tiny.
I don't consider personally my 12 foot to be huge, because I'm so accustomed (sp?) to the snake, but he IS a huge snake, and although docile, he is still a stupidly powerful animal.

might have to rethink this as to weather i would want a "floor" snake. how do you guys "handle" these large snakes other than pull them out? sat down? or do you just leave them to do their thing? thanks for all the ideas and advice i appreciate it ![]() |

Handling depends entirely on the snake in question. When it comes to the P. molorus I keep, they will usually come out of their own accord once the Viv is open, and I tend to sit down with them and let them cruise about, moving them if necessary, although I do occasionally hold them across my back, but at 20 kilo's it's a bit of a chore.
With the Retic, at 11 feet, much more control is placed over the snake's movements. She is handled with 2 of us, because of the speed and strength of the animal, and has to be lifted from the Viv. The 9 foot African Rock python and 6 foot Scrub I have are rarely handled, due to their more aggressive natures. The Scrub when handled is held by one person, but often I will have a second person present to divert the animals attention from myself. The Rock Python is a whole different ball-game- she's fast and powerful, and requires 2 handlers without any doubt. From 2 feet to 7 feet she was a nice docile juvenile, but now as a sub-adult, she is aggressive. Handling techniques for the giants are varied and almost entirely individual. The nature of the individual snake is also a major factor in what technique is used.
