Default Do Big snakes need hides...surely not?

Sorry ive been away for a few days....back now

anyway i saw this thread about a week ago with everyone saying no..and in most cases i completely agree.....now i hope the mods dont move this thread because i think its better in here than the picture section because it serves a purpose rather than just photos.

As most no i teach children for a living, and i use burmese pythons alot of the time. well all of my burmeses are rescues and poor feeders. For me this is a good thing because i dont want a 12ft+ snake with a strong feeding response around children.

well anyway i was telling people that the only way my burms feed are with hides and they will feed in the hides completely.....but they said "blah blah blah".

Well anyway heres photos to show you eve the crappest feeders can still make great feeders.....good thing with poor feeding burms is when they start eatting they go into a almost complete trace so it means i can remove there hide afterwards

also just to add...yes i no hes albino...its not his fault though...also hes fed every 7 weeks

I think the option of a hide should be provided where possible.

i have given up giving my female burm a hide, as she just flips them over constantly...but this isn`t to say that others dont appreciate them, i am going to try her again in a larger viv soon (she got very stressed last time) so will try and incorperate a hide in there and see if she uses it....my male (who is going soon sadly) enjoys his upturned dog bed though...and thoroughly enjoys sitting under and on it

Thats a lovely albino mate. All mine have hides regardless of whether they use them and I have noticed also as steve says retics tend to use them to curl up on top of. I provide a hide and something to climb on whether I see the snakes using them or not just incase.
