As for the rest of your post i think you should refrain from the use of 'lol' when talking about the health and safety of an animal in your care. I know the 7w heat mats dont get hot enough but you never know and its not worth the risk. Would you not have a smoke alarm in your house or not wear a seat belt when in a car.

You have a duty to provide for this animal and if you cant afford it you shouldnt be keeping it at all!
well said!!! xxxxxxx

If your royal does not have underbelly heating it will not digest - therefore if the heatmat on the side isnt getting the floor of the viv warm enough it wont be able to digest and as such will not eat.

you NEED a thermostat. It may not feel very hot now but on a warm day it can and will exceed temperatures of 100F which will burn and possibly kill your snake.

With all due respect - if you cant afford a thermostat you cant afford vet bills and you shouldnt be keeping the snake in my opinion....

Buy a mat stat, they are like £20, put the mat in the right place, use 2 hides (warm end/cool end) and one moist one if you can fit it in there. Snake should feed in a week or so if husbandry is correct. Failing that try scenting the pray.

You can get ministats for about 20 pounds if it helps! if its on the side it prob is cold for most of the time if you say the heatmat is just warm.
If i can help in anyother way just give us a pm.!

Yeah get ya self 2 identical hides (one for each end), get yaself a thermostat ,there best off with a basking spot between 88 and 92f and a ambient temp of around 80 - 84f and a relative humidity of 60%
put ya heatmat under one end of the faunarium to create a thermal gradient. After this is all set up leave the royal on his own for about a week with no handling before attempting a feed. try feeding him at night you may get a better feeding response
also dont handle the royal at all until you get him feeding consecutively
hope this helps

if you need a stat ill post you out a brand new ministat 100 for £19.99. you will the be able to set a stable temperature and hopefully your snake will then start to eat.

back to it not feeding. what food are you using ??? before feeding are you warming the mouse or rats head either with warm water or a hair dryer ??? if you see around the top jaw of your royal all the little holes are heat sensing pits when it notices something different or in this case warm it is likely to go for it and hopefully feed

Thanks to most of you for the advise
I will move the heat mat to underneath and I will consider getting a thermostat

I was feeding her fuzzies but I changed to pinkies and she still doesn't take them
I warm them up next to the radiator until they're warm to the touch
