if u cannot afford the equiptment needed for keeping a snake (or any kind of pet) u should NOT have one!! simple as that.

if u cannot afford a themostat, get urself a lightdimmer (don't know if this is the correct english word?) u can buy these for 3 euro (will be 2 pounds) they are used to dim the lights on a regular lamp BUT work equally well on a heatmat, but u have to use something to regulate the heatmat.

She has a cave which she uses all the time and I have some fake leaves that hang down from the side
She has a piece of wood to climb on and she does have a water bowl
She appears perfectly healthy, flicking her tongue and being active and inquisitive... She just does not feed at all =/
Like I said, if I had more money i'd have her in a small wooden viv with a bulb but I can't afford that at the moment lol

If you cant afford it you shouldnt keep it. If your skint an animals life shouldnt be in your hands.

You got me all wrong
It's not that I can't afford it
Coz I can but it will blow a week or two worths money
And I never saw good enough reason to get a thermostat
No one I know uses them
The two pet shops in my area don't
Even the college I go to doesn't! (I do animal care)
And they've never had a problem
So I didn't think it was worth the money
Obviously I was misinformed and I apologise

I just hope this snake never needs veterinary treatment if the OP can't afford a stat. As others have said if you can't afford the basics that every snake needs then you shouldn't keep them.

Sorry to be blunt but thems the facts in my opinion

Surely a week or twos worth of money is better than having a burnt or worse snake.

£20 will get you a mat stat, even cheaper if you get lucky on ebay

For the sake of your snake please buy one

I would trust advice from here more than the majority of pet shops i know. There are only certain places i would take advice from but before i even think about asking a shop i would ask on here as alot of places 'think' they know.

I once went to a shop that refused to sell me a corn snake as i was heating my tanks by heatmat becuase apparently they dont get warm enough

I notice your in Lincoln, is 1 of the shops you visit in Skegness by any chance?

Get a thermostat for your other reptiles as well, seeing as you said you've never used one.

Sorry, but what? You wonder why your snake is not feeding when you have an unstated heat mat on the SIDE of the faunarium? You can obviously read, so why not read a caresheet. That might just solve your problems.
Really bugs me when people get any animal and dont do any research.
You asked for help and ignored the advice given. Enough said!
