Default Several Questions...

Thermostats.

Firstly, many online reptile shops say that a thermostat will take (for example) 200 watts of heatmats.. So is it possible to have several heatmats connected to one thermostat?

Also, i have a milksnake in a terrarium, there are no problems, the heatmat is under the glass tank. Should i have the stat-probe on top of the substrate or under the substrate?? As under the substrate the temp is 85F which is correct, but on the top of the substrate its less....

Thanks,
Anthony

Yes you can have multiple heat mats connected to 1 stat but bear in mind that all the heat mats will be controlled by 1 stat so it is advisable to make sure that all the setups are identical

Put the stat ontop of the substrate directly on top of the heat mat

If you have one probe you can't connect it to multiple heat mats, some may run at different temperatures, you're better getting multiple probes

The heat mat is under the glass.. So the probe goes on top of the substrate? IN the tank

Identical? What if theres heat coming from the floor, then the bottom one would be warmer. If theres heat coming through the wall the top one might be warmer...

You can get adaptors which turn one socket (like on a thermostat) into 2-3....

I will first test for maybe a week before i put anything in.

If all the mats are equal in power theey should in theory pull the same current from the stat and be at the same temperature. It would however be ideal if each mat was separately statted I agree.

I agree too, but it saves me £30, and seeing as the snakes are of the same species, and need same requirements, andif it works, i see no reason to not use one stat...
