Cheers guys, I can't decide to go with the faun or rub for a while or a small cube viv? If I went for a 2ft viv how long do you reckon he could live in it for? Any of you carpet owners got any pices of your set ups.... with carpet of course
Cheers Brads

He's 2 feet long now and in a viv just under 2x2x2. He has two floor hides as well as the branches and artificial foliage. He does spend a lot of time out on the open branches hanging down on the look out for rats.

Nice set up mate, I may go for a 2x2x2 to start with. should last a couple of years maybe? Why do you use bulbs instead of heat mats?
Keep the pictures coming ![]() Cheers Brads

Heat mats only tend to heat objects placed upon them and are more suitable for ground dwelling snakes. Carpets seem to spend most of their time up on branches so the air temp is pretty vital with them. I find that in my viv a 100w ceramic will provide a decent basking temp on the branches near the right top corner where the bulb is situated (advice... don't get a spot bulb guard as a hatchling carpet may get it's head stuck through the wider mesh). They really do seem to appreciate the top part of the viv being slightly hotter than the recommended temps. Also with that wattage even if the stat failed the cool end will not rise above 30C which is survivable. I reckon that a carpet would be ok up to 4 feet in length for the 2x2x2 viv at which point I'm going for a 3.6x4x2. They don't seem to get stressed at all by having a larger viv as long as there are plenty of hiding places. I suspend the foliage by cable ties through a couple of small holes drilled in the top... they also aid ventilation.

I made a lock plate adaptation as with the smaller vivs there is not enough of a gap between the glass sheets to allow the lock to seat.

I feed a newborn rat every week. Once he gets to a year old and on slightly larger rats it'll be 10 days. As an adult a large rat should see him for at least 2 weeks with the odd extra week or two between some feeds. Snakes have not evolved to take regular meals and many health problems develop if they get overweight.
