Default Boa Questions Need Answering

Hi guys I need some advice please. I already have 2 Royals (which I adore but my OH really likes Boa's so I'm just wondering as to what size the different boas get to and also what their requirements are i.e viv sizes and food items. Can anyone please help me also what would be a reasonable price to pay for a juvenile, thanks.

Yeah a Boa Constrictor, only thing is there are so many out there that I thought the best bet would be to ask on here first as the problem with internet is it isn't always reliable whereas the people on here are

I must admit I am slightly nervous about getting a Boa so I'd be looking at getting one that is not going to grow the length of the m6!! and has a nice friendly disposition.

The vast majority of Boa constrictors are very placid, and laid back.

The chances of buy a giant are slim, but obviously not impossible.

If you bought any random male 'common boa' you would most likely be looking at a 5 - 7ft snake, if female then 6 - 8ft. Although 10ft+ is possible.

If you are more specific in your search, then you can purchase dwarf / dwarfish boas that will grow little more than 3ft.

Here is a guide to the different Boa Constrictors: J'n'B Boas - Boa Localities

On the site you can also find loads of information on Boa Constrictor Care, including a care sheet, housing advice, keeping boas in RUBs, and also basic veterinary care

Well I've had a quick look and I think the ones that may be suitable are the following:

Crawl Cay
Caulker Cay
Hogg Island
Corn Island

Has anyone got any thoughts on these species and what I am likely to pay for them please. Also given their relatively small size would I be looking at a 3 foot or a 4 foot viv to house it.

I personally would try to find a breeder in your area and visit their collection.

The snakes you mentioned you like the sound of due to there size vary so much in size! best thing to do is look for the type you like ( i.e colour pattern, local) find a breeder that breeds that type, see how big the parents are, then pick a baby for its personality from the litter

Crawl Cay - Gaz's Boas, Boa Constrictors, Pythons and other snakes sold Gaz breeds some stunning Crawl Cays cost £100+, will live in a 3x2x2 or 4x2x2 happily.

Caulker Cay - Not many in the UK, but (in my opinion) the most stunning of the BCI localities. I currently keep mine in 1.5x2x2 but will be upgrading to 3x2x2 when they are adult.

Hogg Island - You will see a few on the forum, I think Ian Karr breeds these also, you are looking at a 4x2x2 for an adult. £150+

Corn Island - Not so many about in the UK, you are really looking at getting an import. 3x2x2
