we've got corns and royals, both are good for handling tho as said above it can depend on the snake more than the species. corns are generally soft, our first one likes to spend sunday morning curled round my arm, dangling off the end of the sofa watching tv with me. one of the youngsters sees me coming and rushes to the front of the viv for a play. all in all i can definitely recommend corns as they're less hassle regarding feeding etc than royals, but if you're used to non-feeding reptiles you shouldn't struggle with either. basically go to the shop and find whatever takes your fancy.

royals, corns, and milks are all great snakes i dont like the word beginner as any new speices you get will make you a beginner again really so il say learner as you learn from them to get knowlage about snake movements, nature and everything else you should deffinatly worth going to you nearest rep shop and getting a hands on feel for them you will enjoy having them once you do

I'd recommend a royal, if you can cope with their random refusal to eat every now and again. Mine is absolutely chilled out...I figure she's far too lazy to bother trying to bite me. Great snake if you're a nervous handler.

if your a bit unsure around snakes royals are a great starter as long as you can cope with the feeding, most of the colubrids are much more flighty and more likely to give you a fright, while royals just sit their chilling.

No-one can be scard of a tame royal! They're right chilled out dudes.

I'd add kings to the list. I've got 3 and my mrs has 1. They're all very active, inquisitive snakes and docile too. Royals and corns are also great though. Really you're spoilt for choice for a 1st snake.

Royals do tend to have good temperments, i would say yes to getting a royal or even a corn snake as they are also good beginner snakes and tend to be good feeders
Good luck

hey i got a royal python yesterday xD i would ask in the pet sop for the feeding records, to make sure its been eating healthy. my boy got home yesterday and ate a warm defrost mouse after a few hours, no issues but iv also heard a lot have food issues. hes soft as anythin, a bit jumpy when i make a sudden movement or touch his head but hasnt shown any aggression x
