Default Haunted tank or crazy hoggie?

Early in February I bought a Western hognose snake. He's been well behaved, eats fine and has shed a couple of times since I've had him. However he has on occasion displayed some strange behavior.
A good few weeks back I was watching the TV when I heard some strange noises coming from his glass tank. I looked over from the sofa and he was all S'd and puffed up and striking at absolutely nothing. He was hissing a lot so I went over and picked him up and he became perfectly happy, slithering around with no signs of aggression. I put him back in his tank and he was happy. I found him at it again last week. Today I came back from work and from the kitchen I could see him going ape again in his tank in the living room. I was nowhere near him and i couldn't see anything that could be bothering him yet he'd inflated his face and was striking at thin air. Again I picked him up and he was fine being handled. Any Ideas?
I've checked the heating, he feeds well, there's plenty of hides for him, there's no mites or anything. He just randomly goes mad.
Or is he just practicing?

I've recently covered up the top and the sides with some black cloth, he still went for it this afternoon though. Again he was fine when he was picked up and had a little wonder.
