Default Breeding Your Own Food For Larger Snakes?

I keep boa's and have been breeding my own food for them as they grew. I've bread mice & rats but now as the boa's are getting larger i don't think it'd be worthwhile keeping & growing the rats up to Jumbo size. It'd take quite some time to become fully grown and they'd need a fair bit of food. I like the idea of breeding my own food where possible as i'm A- not sure how fresh the food is from the petshop and B- you know what you've bread has been looked after and is normally a lot plumper than pet shop frozen food.

So my question is does anyone breed there own food for large snakes? Pet shops sell rabbits for larger snakes but are these wothwhile breeding or maybe guini pigs are the next step up?

Rabbits would be good if you had the room and they breed...... well like rabbits. The cheepest way and most fun is to buy yourself an air rifle and find somewhere to shoot your own.

Probably so, but i'd like to breed a few of my own even if they only get 2-3 meals a year and the rest of the time have pet shop bought ones, for nutritional benefit more than anything.

I have a garden... i'm not sure how the rabbit's would cope through winter but i could build them a hutch i guess if it's worthwhile.
Would there not be a problem with shooting wild rabbits and feeding to your snakes? Either in the disease they cou;d possibally be carrying or the fact the snake will presumably having to digest a metal pellet?

As above remove the pellet, freezing will remove anything that would harm your snake, some users on here have been doing this for 10-15 years with no probs
