Default reptile shows? a way around this?

hi all please correct me if i am wrong, please don't slate me if i am im just trying to find a way around this?

ok if traders are not allowed to sell at shows and councils are still closing down shows due to there being no policing for this type of offense, then why could'nt as hobbyists we arrange a swap meet so to speak, at a reptile shops or something alike, this would still give us a place to trade wouldn't it?

venue wise, im not too sure of what to suggest but any one got any in put or suggestions on this?

if we are just hobbyists then we wouldn't need a license for the meet ups?

So if your in the trade are you not allowed to sell if you're a hobbyist too? i.e your personal stock/pets? that sucks.

not too sure but if you go as a shop you cannot trade in shows, but the powers that be are shutting down reptile shows everywhere due to the trade sales factor, there has to be away around this???

I really dont get all this with councils trying to ban reptile expos. I mean the BTS expo was held in the same school every year for 21 years it moved this year as the old one had refurb but this year was the 22nd yearly expo and they have been trading and selling spiders for that length of time with no problems what so ever. Why should it be any different for reptile enthusiasts. Maybe if the herp societies held an annual expo in mid of country so everyone can access and is open to members and non members alike would that make a difference?

There is no specific law that says if you are a trader, business owner or pet shop license holder... that you cannot be a hobbyist and sell your personal stock.

What each council and organisation interprets as being a hobbyist / business trader are completely different, hence a lot of confusion.

Example - I own a pet shop license. I buy and sell animals with this pet shop license.

I breed my own corn snakes. I do not sell these for the business. I sell these for myself, to cover my heating and food costs, which are paid for by ME at my personal residence, and not paid for by the shop. The investment is not business, the upkeep is not business... the offspring are not business. I am a breeder and a hobbyist.

My pet shop license for buying and selling is completely irrelevant. Legally wise, I believe that I - or anyone else with a pet shop license - is entitled to also sell their personal goods privately.

Another example, just because someone owns a garage, does not mean they cannot sell their personal car bought with their personal money on the freeads as a private sale.

To suggest that someone who is affiliated with a reptile business, cannot have their own collection or sell animals from that collection privately, is in my opinion, quite ridiculous

The antis are targeting rep shows the way they have been targeting bird shows over the last few years. How long before they stop imports the same as they have with a lot of the birds?

I'm not 100% sure but isn't everything that is sold subject to income tax, and as such if you do not delclare it as earnings you are subject to prosecution by the inland revenue. I have also wondered about arranging private meets to do 'Swaps', but I'm sure that the inland revenue, animal rights and RSPCA monitor forums such as this. We are on a sticky wicket here.
