there isn't really but it is safer to wire the live to the center terminal.

the only way with electrics is to be systematic, try every possible permatation of bulbs into holders, holder into stat, until you find the one that it tripping the fuse.

Ok I'm no electrician either, but u could have a fault with 1 or all of the holders which would cause the problem, and it's unlikely that yourll have 2 faulty stats so the problem is with either the fittings or your wiring!! So I'd check each fitting by plugging the directly into the mains and seeing if they work or blow fuses (thing is if the fitting is faulty it should blow the fuse in it's own plug 1st as they SHOULD only have a low rated fuse 3amp I think)
also check the extension lead you using from the stat to fittings to make sure that is wired correctly at each end.
Then the coil extention lead too if all is wired and working correctly then u must have been unlucky and had faulty stats but I doubt it.......

Sooner or later your find an obvious mistake after hrs and hrs

It wouldnt blow the heater plugs if there is a 5 amp in and the stats have 3 amp its got to be the a damaged wire some were in the cable or as been said a faulty fitting put a multimeter on the wireing and check everything u should find the fault even if you cant see it
