Right now I've read it all, I posted this for no other reason than I thought people may find it interesting. I wasn't asking for a diagnosis from anyone as I said he's already being treated but I'd never seen or heard of this till it appeared so I guess the same can be said for a lot of people and so it can be helpful.

Whether the snake is a morph or normal makes no odds it'd be treated by a vet all the same and it's also good ina sense that a lot of people don't show the defects they have snakes hatch out with especially not royal morphs but it can happen to anything and it is treatable but some may just assume it's a physical deformity and go down freezer alley etc.

Soooo yeah whether people are 'amateur' or not they can still take an educated guess and learn things too.

great thread.

When I looked at the first picture it looked as if the eye had ruptured, but the picture from the top of the head was showing that it was indeed distended from some sort of swelling. Not sure that I would have instantly diagnosed an abcess TBH, but it does show how important the perspective of pictures can be

I hope your little guy gets better soon

Really great post, most interesting thing i've seen in weeks and a really great way to expand everyones knowledge.

After so many threads being recently being about the same old thing i found it very refreshing. Its just dissapointing how even on this thread there ends up being some kind of big session.

The vet had had the benefit of seeing the animal in the flesh to make their diagnosis, some "amateurs" here, who only saw a photo were able to pretty much come to the same conclusions and I'm probably not the only one to have learnt a bit more valuable information today

Indeedy and I'd never even heard of a subspectular abcess before Cazyp and Timberwolf mentioned it.

I saw the funky eye as soon as the snake popped and began querying an action plan then but obviously I couldn't get it to a vet until it hatched but this does appear to be one of those strange ones where the infection began in the egg.
