Default Interesting and educational posts wanted? Here you are

Sooo no stupid answers and no cheating people who have seen this elsewhere. This will be another thread Mr. WLW will be all hot on though lol.

This little guy hatched out the other day and as you can see has a slight problem, so who knows what it is and what is to be done? It is already under veterinary care I will add.

Rach

Complete guess - some sort of infection causing brain swelling and therefore intraoccular pressure change/swelling? Complete guess though like I said, cute little sausage too.

it does look like an infection i think Rach
best get it checked by a vet and a course of antibiotics prescribed
then if that doesn;t sort it, back to the drawing board
cute wee thing tho, hope the problem gets sorted soon

I would hazard a guess at an abscess either in or behind the eye.

Looks like its a possible abscess to me. Ive seen it happen in corns from the eggs that have been poured stagnant water over them when the eggs start to dip like 7-10 days prior to hatching.
also had it happen with a carpet python the other year....just did my honey solution in its water and uped the temps 2 degrees....and after 3 sheds it disappeared

as for what it has to be done....i'd say the vet would whack it full of baytril and hope for the best...thats what tends to happen...

I would agree with that, but thats super unlucky in a snake thats just hatched.

For a guess course of anti's and some how getting the abscess drained, tricky area.

I have seen an abnormality similar to this but the eye was normal looking otherwise that was due to a very small head on a normal royal hatchling but this eye looks different so my money is on an abscess.

is there some kind of malformation of the skull or eyesocket? or maybe both?....looks to be either infected (internaly) or bruised on the top of the head on the bad eye side...anti inflammatries & anti-biotics i would hazzard a guess at as treatment, or maybe an abscess as already mentioned by Julia, treatment i would imagine would be the same as i just said...except maybe just anti-biotics...........never seen anything like that, so complete guess work! lol...interesting though! and hope the wee one makes a good and fast recovery!
