Default These Really Useful Boxes??

ive seen these mentioned alot on this forum. How do you set them up? i know about the basics with them, but what about heating. is it fine underneath with some polystyrene between the mat and the tub. also how long would my snake be happy in there. i have three corns all ranging from four to five feet.

Heating underneith with polystyrene is fine, as long as the tub is big enough it should be happy in there for life.
Just drill air holes in the sides and top (obviously small enough so the snake cant escape!

Take a gander at this 'ere post. It's for smaller snakes than yours, but exactly the same applies.. just on a bigger scale.

Damn awful things.

They only hold the lid at each end so any snake with an ounce of strength can push the lid in the middle and get it's head out. Try it with your finger it's pretty easy to do.

Not a problem I've had with them, keeping various species in them too, from corns & kings, bull snakes, royals and younger boas and burms.I have found the RUB's to be invaluable in fact.

never had that problem either and ahve used them for species with strength.

In fact i've never come across the lid being pushed off/up at all.

In our personal experience of them..we've had no issues at all. Hold heat well enough, great for humidity etc.

Must have just been bad luck then. I know of one where a corn got it's head out of the side and could not get it back again because of the pressure of the lid on it's neck ... the poor thing suffocated.

Consequently, I have only ever used tubs with lids that seal all the way around and not just at the ends.

I put string/rubber bands around, just in case!
