Question Feeding Rats To Royal

I have a 2 year old royal that I have recently started feeding rats but it is becoming a pain he dosent always take the rats and i have to end up buying mice to scent the rats which seems a waste. Last week and the week before he striked the rat but after a few minutes just left it there and then shyed away again.

Shall i keep him on large mice or still ty and get him eating rats?

Maybe with the larger meal he isn't as hungry as often as before. Were the mice a similar size to the rats? If not, i'd probably just increase the amount of time between offering feeds.

That could be it then, maybe try feeding every 10 days and see how you go. Bear in mind it is breeding season though, and he may just be going off his food.

Hi there I had the same problem with my royal when I changed to rats all I did was get pure white rats the same size as the mice I was feeding and she took them. After a few weeks she would eat any rat I gave her then

i had a royal female who was a bugger, she was going on a kilo and she refused anything only, mouse fluffs i kid you not,so what i did was i offered her her fluff and when she struck and was on her last swallow with her mouth open i put the rats in there and she automatically started to swallow, works for me and ive never had to do it more than twice x

My girl can be slightly fussy but I have found that dipping the rats head in hot water works everytime
