Default Corn snake care sheet please

Hiya,

I am a newbie to the snakes forum.

I keep leopard geckos but I have always wanted a python - carpet or jungle type.

Anyway, I am not allowed a python as I still live at home but I have convinced the parents that a corn snake wouldn't escape and bite them in the night!

Before I go out and buy one, does anyone have a caresheet please? I have a suitable set up but I would still like to make sure there isn't anything I have missed.

Thanks!

Yeah, there'll be loads on google. One of the ones I found most useful was Corn snakes, cornsnakes and more CORN SNAKES - Corn-Utopia / Kathy Love corn snake care sheet - Corn Snakes cornsnakes which is written by corn legend Kathy Love - I like the style it is written in.

ok I have read 3 or 4 care sheets now and it looks fairly simple but I have a couple of questions.

Is bottled water instead of tap water essential?

Also, do they have to have a heat mat or is a ceramic lamp ok?

Here's my caresheet CWCorns - Christy Whatley Corn Snakes

You can use whatever heat source you want, as long as it is correctly controlled and guarded. Ceramics and bulbs tend to get quite a bit hotter than heat mats to the touch, as they're more localised heat sources - and you will need a guard to ensure the snake does not burn itself. Light sources are better controlled with dimming stats, whereas mats can be controlled by the cheaper mat stat.

I have always used tap water. I suppose it depends if you're in an area with really poor water. I know that when I was in the states the water tasted absolutely disgusting and I couldn't drink it... I just stick to the rule if you're happy drinking it yourself, then it should be fine for the snake

As for keeping 2 female snakes together, there is a lot of debate on that. Adult corn snakes are not known for their cannibalistic tendancies although accidents do happen, and it is always possible. You would certainly have to feed them seperately. If one got sick, it would be likely that the other one would get sick, and both would have to be taken to the vets if there was a problem.. just some things to think about.

Hi Nuttybabez, I always use tap water and ceramic heating for my snakes which as you saw when you collected your leopard geckos from us are all in perfect health. In response to the text I got about you today we currently haven't got any anerythristic corns but should have some this season if you can wait? You know we'll look after you!

As for keeping females together we keep our corns in a group with 6 females and 1 male with no problems at all.

All the best, maybe see you soon.

Mike & Sarah.
