Unhappy shocked

hi guys
basically, i was feeding by boa about 5 mins ago. she was getting an xl mouse. i had noticed the mouse was a little fatter than usual and also noticed a small amount of blood "down there" by the bum. i left it and fed my boa. went on feeding and as per usual the boa strikes at and constricts the mouse. as it constricted, 5 fully formed little pinkies came out of the mouse. i am very shocked. mice give birth to alot of babies as im sure you know, and the blood indicates to me that it would have been mid birth when they killed this one!!!

what are your thoughts on this, and should i inform the pet shop of this. there are quite a few in this batch with fat lower abdomens come to think of it

i have kept reps for a while, but have never had this happen

Alex

Let the shop know as they can inform their supplier who may have staff that need speaking to regarding the care for the rodents. I know it sounds daft as the rodent is going to die anyway but they cant go killing things while giving birth (if that was the case).

i get quite a few ex breeder mice that the females are clearly pregnant when killed, but never mid birth, killing mid birth i would say isn't the nicest thing,

at least your ratsnake got an extra snack

and yea rob i will do. killing pregnant mice is one thing, but this really looked mid birth. with only 4 coming out - and the boa let go so i checked there were no more - that makes it a very small litter for a big mouse - unlikely if you ask me
