its a nightmare ive got a camera with a built in macro but its pants, so got a dslr its a serious jump in price for something half decent its mad im always playing with the old one so though its about time to get a real one lol

what macro lens is it..you get 2 types..macro lens and true macro lens..if its fixed focal ie 50mm 70mm 100mm 105mm or 150mm macro lens then there the ones u need..they give you 1:1 life size at max focus.
the other ones are called macro lens but there like 55-200mm or 18-105mm..these are not fixed focus macro lens.. What you need is a fixed focal macro lens.sigman,nikon and canon do the best ones..if its not fixed focal its not the end of the world..you can still get wicked shots but they wont be as close as a true macro lens (life size) What lens is it?what camera did you get>?

thats a true macro lens.at full zoom it will give you 1:1 life size.for reptiles thats all your going to need..if you have the cash you could do with a flash.
