Default slings bite

Hi I have always wondered typically at what size can slings bite you or is it the case that even from when they can penetrate the skin with their fangs their temperament is usually still too timid to try (even with the more defensive species)

I'd be interested to know this as well.

I've found that even the ones i have/had that were generally classed as a bit nasty tend to really avoid me and make no attempt to stand their ground and certainly never gone into threat posture...and please note i do not provoke them in any way, i am talking about when general maintenance is being done. They will sooner leg it in the other direction than stand their ground!!

Not sure if as they grow bigger they get a little more confident?

I was really disappointed when I opened this thread, I read 'slings bite' as a statement and was hoping to open it and read that someone had been bitten by an itsy bitsy sling, my fingers were all ready poised over the 'L' and 'O' keys

But I don't know, I only have 'safe' spiders

I've heard of people getting bitten by slings, read a bite report of a crawshayi sling somewhere.
I've had a tiny S.philippinus rear up at me before

Yip, slings can bite. My 15yr old daughter was bitten by a P. cambridgei sling when we were unpacking a group of 10. She had pain in her finger and aches in her hand, wrist and arm for a few hours but nothing serious.

She has named the little demon Nibbles. He will still try to bite and ask questions later so we have to watch him during feeding etc now that he is much bigger at 4 inches.

My GBB sling reared up when I was easing it out of its delivery tub. So cute to see a tiny T in a threat pose.

BTW, GazEmm, It still hasnt shed yet

I've found that slings, even of more feisty species are too scared to bite. When they reach a couple of inches they generally start getting PMS and learn to lash out like their reputation would suggest. Of course, if you get the more sweet natured spiders then you needn't worry too much.

with my Pamphobeteus breeding i found nymph twos eating nymph one and two alike./
They have the potential to bite from around this point.
Only restrcition is the depth of the skin and length of fangs.
Given the correct circumstances, even slings will defend themselves with a bite.
