Default Making flies for Mantid food Help Please.

Hi All,

Has anyone got advice or a link to somewhere that advises how to make flies from maggots. Heard white maggots make blue bottles. Is this right?

Thanks

white maggots from the fishing shop..u bring them home..put them in a bait box and in room temps they take about 10-14 days to hatch.

after 2 days they will turn to casters..i then put them in the fridge and only bring out what i need..this way i dont have 100s of flies hatching that i dont need.

Hi just to add to the advice given,You can buy the casters direct from most fishing shops which will hatch quicker if you need them just ask them to make sure the maggots have not been treated so they wont hatch !!Also and most important you need to feed the flies for about a week with sugar or organic honey as they dont have the necessary proteins the mantis need to grow when they first hatch. As an aside ive just started feeding my mantis cockroaches (much to the disgust of my wife)!!! which breed quickly and are an excellent source of food
