Default Pokie Help

I have been trying to fight it, but I think I really want a pokie,

I have a 30x30x45 exo waiting. I can also make a small glass tank to suit a youngster. The big question is what is the easiest for a pokie virgin?

Metalica but you are asking for basically unicorn poop with that one. I got an ornata for my 1st but when he died i got a subfusca. Regalis and Miranda are quite common as they are a lot cheaper than other species.

P.Metallicas are meant to be the calmest.

I've only got a Regalis juvie atm, definitely want more though when I've got some cash, sexyyy spiders.

Yeah, I think Metallica is top of most lists for obvious reasons. Are they easier to care for than other pokies, or are they just the most desirable due to colours. I like to get slings and grow them, so i guess if metallica slings became available, although they would be more expensive than regular T's, they would still be affordable.
Maybe I should set my sights on a G pulchra / P metallica double at the BTS

Tbh, I want to ask what your experience with T's is? I have been keeping for a long time, and no amount of research can get you ready for a T like a pokie. yes, they are very easy to keep and house, but what about re-housing, watering and tank cleaning? I may be a vit dramatic, but I have seen a friend in the last few days end up in hospital due to a P. regalis bite.

P. regalis is probably the easiest to come by and is still regarded as the best looking pokie when it comes to the dark and light patterns of many of this genus.
P. metallica are hard to come by and my recommendation would be to start with most other members of the species. The big negative of P. metallica apart from the price and rarity, but the fact they are very shy of light, more so than other pokies.
P. subfusca are great lookers and like many pokies make a good community. P. formosa, P. fasciata, P. ornata, P. rufilata and P. pederseni should be easy to come by, with P. miranda being a bit dearer followed by some of the other rarer species.
If you're definitely up for a P. metallica expect to pay upwards of £30-40 for a sling, £65 for a juv and £120-300 for a mature female.
Keep in an arboreal set-up with good opportunity to hide eg. cork or bamboo tube, vermiculite and sphagnum moss in substrate, spray once a week, waterbowl. Start with small enclosure, when it outgrows put the whole tub in a new enclosure and let it make its own way out, might take weeks but it will move out. Get yourself some long tweezers for removing dead insects and any bolus you find on substrate.
Read up about pokies, give them respect and time and you shouldn't experience too much probs. If you're concerned about the bites, and you should defintely be aware these have the potential to deliver a week or more's worth of pain, read up on bite reports and print them off, always handy to provide the Hospital with info they'd probably have to search for themselves (whilst you site worrying!).
Most of the time you'll find they move away from disturbance, and if they don't feed them tomorrow!
