Default Sling or grown on?

Hi, interested in getting a spider, as it'll be my first, should i go for a sling, or a sub adult? Whats best? What enclosures do you use for growing slings on when they are too big for the film canister size things?, and what after that? Many thanks, Ben

My new sling is slightly grown on (about 20mm legspan now) and I got a plastic food container from sainsburys and drilled some small air holes into the top for the spid and that's working fine.

I decided against a new born sling in the end because of the small livefood you need for it - I get small crickets now and what the spid doesn't eat go on to be big enough to feed my gecko.

Good luck with whatever you choose

I use any plastic tube that I can find - tesco/staples/asda/pound shop all do good ones, just poke a few air holes in.

Start with whatever you like. Personally I like them once they are big enough to eat small crickets rather than micors, because the tubs of food last longer! Whatever size you want though, it really doesn't matter - I started with a spiderling.

What kind of tarantulas take your fancy?

At the mo, just terrestrial ones, coz the pokey things scare me a bit! Especially knowing their nasty! I'd like a cobalt blue but i know they're a bit nuts. I've sen a Grammastola sp: that I quite like G. 'Northen Gold' Looks like a teddy bear! But I don't really know - I don't mind what size it eventuall gets to, just that its nice and calm!. Don't think my nerves would take a jumpy spider!

How about a curly hair?
I know they're not that colourful, but nice and calm and get to a good size.
We have spiderlings at the shop, if you do end up coming down this way you can have one!

I don't like them! Its all about the colours! I really want a colourful/nice looking one! Not a dull one (sorry to anyone who like curlies!)

Aww!
In that case the Brachys are good although a littke 'flicky' and the Aponophelmas are a bit more pricey as they're very slow gorwing but generally very calm and nice and colourful - the bicoloratums give red knees a run for their money. Thespidershop has a few lovely ones at the moment, well worth checking out.
