Default Quest for the elusive Lampropelma violaceopes

...No luck. Yet. Of course, we didn't even enter any primary rainforest (which is where large adult L. violaceopes have been seen on tree trunks recently), due to time constraints. Even around the jungle fringes, there were numerous arboreal tarantula burrows in trees (mostly dead ones) - and the only arboreal tarantula known to occur here is Lampropelma violaceopes, aka Cyriopagopus sp. "Singapore Blue". We spent very little time there today though, so we're going back next week, and into the forest proper.

Significant finds (sizes refer to bodylength only):

One 1" lichen huntsman - Pandercetes sp. (not captured)

A 1.5" unidentified tarantula we found in a tree stump, which we failed to catch. It was reddish brown. Are L. violaceopes juveniles this colour? Do terrestrial burrowing tarantulas ever build webs in trees (I'm asking this because the spider appeared to resemble Phlogiellus and/or Coremiocnemis; both terrestrial burrowers)?

A 1.5" female Selenocosmid - going to be fun trying to get an ID again

A 2.5" mantis, which I need an ID for

A strange looking cricket, which I don't mind having an ID for

More pics to come.

Might be worthwhile checking out the BTS bulletin where they searched for this species, soz can't remember which one.

The registration is usually refused simply because of a lack of detail, eg. providing your real name and not reading the rules. However, recently the BTS forum has come under increasing spam and viral attacks and therefore closed automatic registration. There's a thread about it in the general forum where Marks suggests the route to take for new registrations.
Might be worth a try, its a great resource.
