Default Pandinus Cavimanus Feeding Problems

Hey all! My delve into the world of scorps and tarantulas is so far going well. Everything seems to be feeding fine. Some species more hit n miss then others.

However, i am having a bit of bother getting my Pandinus Cavumanus (African Red Claw Scorpion) to feed. Had it for just under 2 weeks now and it hasn't touched a thing. Tried it with roaches, crickets and mario worms so far.

If I put one in live with it, its response is defensive rather then trying to eat its meal. Ive tried leaving dead food with it overnight and still no luck.

Its quite large, not quite full grown adult but not far off. Been told it was wild caught as a juvi so presumably its been feeding ok in captivity for it to have reached adult size.

Housing wise, its in a RUB. Few inches of potting soil/vemiculite for substrate. 80 - 85F. High humidity.

Any tips on encouraging it to feed would be appreciated!
Many thanks
Jack

So they need low humidity then? Lots of conflicting info online!

Jack dont keep it dry, they like and need fairly high humidity
there care is pretty much identical to that of all the Pandinus.
Pandinus Cavimanus does like it slightly less humid than an P.imperator
but not enough for it to be noteable lol
For a good care sheet on P.cavimanus just find a good one on P.imperator
and change the name

there not really aggressive more, defencive realy
anyway the point is, dont keep it dry as it would die of dehydration
relatively quickly.
And seriously dont worry bout the not eating there metabolism is so slow
they can last a very long time without food

I picked one of these up yesterday (yep, gone to the dark side of scorpions) and I must agree with LycanLord20 here. Basic common sense; they come from African forests, and as such, humidity would be quite high amongst the leaf litter.

So far, mine's not been aggressive at all, quite sweet actually. I have also heard from certain books that their metabolism is even lower than that of P.imperator. Mine fed last night though, so I can't worry
