Question What can a vet do for your invertebrates?

As asked in this post by Becky, what sort of problems have you had with an invert and what sort of treatment was received?

Also, what DIY treatments have you administered? I've glued and "cornfloured" a couple of tarantulas, assisted moulting and fed a few centipedes on cricket soup because they had their maxillipeds removed but other than that I think I'd struggle to treat inverts for anything else.

Thanks!

I think if a T has damaged a leg and you're not comfortable pulling it off yourself (I believe they have muscles at the base of the leg that close like a sphincter) then a vet would come in use, especially if you've payed a lot of money for the specimen.

Yeah, that's about it; do you think?

How about medications or more complicated procedures? Anyone?

do inverts get things like ticks, or do ticks only infest warm blooded creatures? I'm racking my brains to think of things a vet could do for a T or other invert.

There's a point. I've had to scrape mites off a couple of centipedes before.

On the other hand, what I was doing seemed futile because the mites just kept spreading and moving. Serious mite infestations are best treated with predatory mites.

To be honest, if a spider needs to drop a leg it will do it itself. I'm not paying ridiculous vet prices just to have them do what the spider will do anyway!

IMO vets aren't gonna come in handy with spiders. We're all capable of glueing a wound, letting a leg drop off, removing old bits of moult etc Why pay someone else to do it?!

The vet currently treating my tortoise is at present treating a sick Tarantula, who is recieving some form of injections every few hours. I didnt ask why as at that point Harry was trying to escape

I'll ask him on monday, because I now know Tarantulas can actually be treated when people think they cannot

I'd be surprised if it was anything more than water that is being injected into the spider.
