bassy, did you see the pics of one I put on this thread? I've got to admit I'm not keen on these guys, although I wouldn't hurt one.

Don't let it bite you!!!

Where are you based just out of interest? I hear this species is spreading out of its localised populations.

I'm in gillingham kent and they are everywhere round here, always get the entrance to their webs between the bricks in the walls or fences of the houses in damp places. When the entrance of there tunnel web is brushed with something they seem to shoot out very angry with front legs raised ready to bite.

Here's more on them from Upupa i.d.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Segestria_florentina

I have not let it go as yet until i knew what it was but now i know im temted to keep it and feed it crickets.

Yeah it's our most aggressive spider species and females are mildly poisonous to us. They're easy to keep and don't even need any substrate, they'll make a tube on the base and side of a small tank but I like putting a split brick with holes in into a small tank. They grow quite big aswell, have fun!

Nasty things, got hundreds of them burying into my walls.
If your looking to catch these go out at 2amish and just look on brick walls there will be lots

I've not seen any up here in worcestershire. I would love to though! I've got loads of lace weavers, False widows (steatoda bipunctata), common garden spiders but thats about it!!
