Talking New Taratula?

I'm thinking about maybe getting a Tarantula.
What would be the best to get.
Would it be better to get a male rather than female?
Do any of you have any care sheets you'd like to link me too?
And where would be the best place to buy one?

Hi you want to get yourself a female as they are long lived if the living conditions are met, Grammostola or Brachypelma species are great for a beginner, here is a link to caresheets for you Invert Care - The Invertebrate Care Information Source - Tarantulas, Scorpions, Centipedes, Millipedes, and more.

Hey Jade,

Look into these probably best for beginners..

Grammostola

Brachypelma(Tend to flick hairs, more than other species not dangerous but is irritable)

Avicularia(Require more humidity and ventilation)

Females do live longer than males, so I'd reccommend getting a female..

Also take a look at this site and join up, if you need any help or want to chat to others who keep T's..

Arachnid Addicts

And check out www.thespidershop.co.uk < Lee Arden is an awesome guy, I'd reccommend buying from him

Hey, im a beginner too. bought myself a sub-adult brachypelma albopilosum (hondorus curly haired) about a month ago, and an adult red grammostola rosea (chile rose) yesterday.

they are both really really kwl spiders, both attractive and very friendly. although handling is not recommended, i have handled both of mine before and they havnt shown any signs of aggression.

both are heavily recommended, generally rosea's are bigger and come in various colours and patterns; whereas the curly haired's (if thats even a word lol) are rarer.

id recommend the curly haired, cos everyone gets a rosea or a mexican red-knee as a first T. be different

and you defo want a female; females generally live to about 10-15 years, while males only live about 18 months after they mature. defo something to consider.
