Default Avicularia purpurea

I was just wondering how many people here keep them. I've never really seen them for sale anywhere (though they're not meant to be difficult to breed).

I'm surprised they're not more prevalent purely because, damn they sexy. Who wouldn't want a purple avic?

So, who here keeps them? Pics are, as always, appreciated.

I'm sure there was another question I had to ask, but right now I've forgotten it. I'll remember later.

I'd love to get one of these. Never seen them anywhere though. Wish I had gotten a minatrix as well when I had the chance. Trouble is my mum hates the T's I got already...

A. purpurea's are one of my favourite Avics. The dont get big and are jet black until you look at them in the light, then you can see the gorgeous deep purple all over them

I think one of the reason's that they aren't very common is that people find them difficult to raise. They dont like the same high humidity that other Avics thrive in but much prefer it dry with only a very light misting. A friend of mine absolutely adore's purpurea's but has had no luck raising them until I mentioned about keeping them dry. His remaining sling is doing great now.

I managed to successfully grow one on from 1cm to a gorgeous 3 inch adult female (now living happily with my friend) and now have another that has grown from 1cm to 1.5 inch of cuteness. I dont have pics since they are very secretive.

I had a purpurea sling yeaaaaars ago. Sadly it died, possibly I was keeping the humidity too high as Elaine mentioned they like it quite dry. Absolutely gorgeous as adults and slings, slings are normal avic sling pattern but just black and white

Would love to get my hands on more!
