It's a really good idea, but sadly somebody beat you to the punch

Some of those are actually wrong too, but then that begs the question of what is a 'right' common name as even 'tarantula' is a bit of a misnomer (the original tarantula being an italian wolfspider of the order Lycosidae, which is a true spider, not even in the same family as our tarantulas by a longshot!).

If you want a good concise list, the best place to look would be the American Arachnid Society Council of Common Names publication available for free download here.

http://www.americanarachnology.org/acn5.pdf

Whilst many will disagree of the use of the term "Official Common Name", that's as close as you'll get. Still doesn't make them at all accurate as you'll still see Grammostola rosea being sold as:

Chilean rose
Chilean rosehair
Chilean beauty
Chilean pink
Chilean common
Chilean brown

And all of those instances of "Chilean" can be replaced with "Chile"...
And it gets worse with other species.

I still wonder why we stick with common names as easier, when you consider that you still have to remember it's "Trinidad Olive" or "Trinidad Chevron" for example, or even more confusingly, "Mexican Red", "Cameroon red" or "Brazilian red". You may as well learn the scientific name as you've still got to put a name to an image, may as well be the correct one?

Saves the confusion with species like "Pinkfoot Goliath" (T.apophysis) which usually doesn't even have pink toes...

i must agree with you there, and the thing that happened to me around this time last year when i first got a G.Rosea, i had just called the species of chile rose, and then i see a couple of other tarantula names, and this got to much, and then i noticed after a little time, i found that i could recognise SOME tarantula's by there "proper" names, and i guess i will get better and better with recognisation of there names and other stuff....
