Default Chewing on vermiculite?

Greetings all

Do Ts usually chew on a piece of vermiculite?

Got an 18 month old sun tiger on Tuesday. The previous owner did apologise saying the tank was very dry, and the small water dish was bone dry.

Topped the water up as soon as I got her home, and soon after she was sitting right over the top of the dish, looked like she might lower herself in for a bath! I assume having a good long drink?

The next night, and this morning, I saw her with a piece of vermiculite in her mouth. Last night she was next to the water dish again, with a fairly large bit of vermiculite, and just occasionally turning it round in her mouth parts. And when she was finished used her mandibles to flick it away across the tank! Awesome!

This is my first T btw, so excuse me behaving like an over-enthusiastic school kid

So, is this just her getting moisture from the vermiculite? Sharpening her fangs?!

Thanks for any info

She may have been tidying

She could have been tidying or it is possible that she was drinking the water from vermiculite as this holds a lot of moisture and i know slings can drink from the sub if necessary

Good choice on your first T .

I'd say it was drinking from the vermiculite , I haven't seen any of mine being that fussy that it'd tidy a single piece of substrate .

Don't suntigers camouflage their tube webs by flicking sub at it, mine does, like my camb. Could be behaviour linked to that.

Psalmo's do have a tendency of incorporating substrate into webbing .

My cambridgei has used loads of eco earth in her webbing. It's pretty cool but, then again, I can't actually see her.
