If your seriously considering a scorp id say stay away from emps.....they are SO boring. Go for a desert hairy instead. They can be a bit nutty however they are far more interesting and actually sting their pray.

As long as you have tongs your fine. Just read care sheets on them as they like it BONE dry. Since mines still growing i only spray the side of the tank very slightly once every 3 weeks to stop it getting caught if it sheds. Its all it ever needs.

gotta agree to an extent, my emps dont do much per se' , but they are still fascinating to watch, mine go nuts at feeding time tho and are easily handled, tho best not to bother them a lot

I dont handle my inverts as a general rule, they have no need to be handled so i dont.
I'll look into scorps and see what i fancy so desert hairy is the way to go you reckon?

you would've been looking at Heterometrus cyaenus.

I have an adult cave claw scorp (pandinus cavimanus) if you are interested, £10

Emps can be a blue/green colour under a blacklight.

What size enclosure would it need? What substrate and do you deliver? Are they the same to keep as an emp or do their needs differ. I much prefer this one to the hairy desert coz theyre really ugly!!

i agree with Exopet, short of seeing pics, it could very easily by H cyaneus.

ironically, if you look at nearly all the large black forest scorps (Heterometrus and Pandinus) in proper daylight of a certain quality, the UV component present in sunlight (at least so says my theory) seems to bring out that blue-ish quality.
i've noticed it on all my more black specimens, from P imperator to H cyaneus and even P cavimanus (though the claws looked red, a nice blue/red contrast!)

some H cyaneus was sold as H longimanus recently so that's another reason i reckon it's cyaneus, just based on what's been circulating, however the only way to tell is to see good quality pics of the granulations and shape of the animal.
i would be surprised if the fairly common H spinifer didn't also showed up blue in UV heavy daylight, as it's also a decent sized black scorp! so that's another possibility.

temperament...well all my scorps are FEISTY! not aggressive or nasty, just defensive...some viewing attack as the best form of defense! however they can't climb smooth surfaces and thus their displays almost always become endearingly futile, except towards food!

general care: forest scorps need loads of food ("obesity" is a good sign with scorps, means they've eaten enough!), good warm temperatures (with a drop at night being good), and plenty of humidity and easy access to water. in addition, most scorps love to burrow, so a few inches of substrate will be appreciated.

in closing: get the scorp

they so aren't!
i've never seen an ugly scorp!

cavimanus like it somewhat drier than emps! main difference really.
