Default My Emperor scorp isn't eating very well

What can I feed my scorp instead of crickets and mini mealworms? The crickets basically live in the tank until they die, usually after a few weeks, cos the scorp ain't touching them, and I think all the mealworms are just escaping from the bowl and burrowing under the soil because he isn't eating them either. Any advice?
I'd guess the scorp's about 3 inches long.

Have you tried handfeeding dead crickets? I'm fairly new to this, but mine wouldnt eat live for the first few days but would accept crickets and mealworms from tongs..

I read they don't usually eat dead food, but I did try feeding him from small tweezers and he just went into defensive or cowering mode and once even pinched the tweezers.
I have noticed a couple of dead crickets with their insides sucked out, but that is literally a couple in the few short months I've had him. I've never actually seen him eat once.
Do they eat those fat wormy things? They'd be easier to tweezer feed than crickets. Maybe he needs full size crickets? Or locusts?

I just checked the temp with my new digital thermometer and it's 40C at the hot end directly under the "basking zone" (my stick on was reading 31C) and 23C at the cool end. I mist thoroughly twice daily, especially at the hot end cos it dries out so quickly. And his tank is 18x12x12" and made of glass with a soily substrate.

40C is way too hot, and you definitely do not need a basking zone. I may be wrong, but try and get the highest temp to around 80F.

Yeah, I only just found out it was 40C about an hour ago cos of that crappy stick on thermometer. I don't have a basking zone for him, I was just indicating that the temperature reading I took was directly under the heat lamp. I think the hot end is supposed to be around 30C or 85F. That means getting a new bulb this weekend I think.

Any ideas on what food I should try while I'm off to the pet store anyway to buy a new lamp?

crickets should be fine mate... remember emps can be kept at room temp my room at the moment is 23C althogh my scorp has a heat matt on the back of his tank to provide some background warmth and mine is reading 25-26C...40 C is way to high im surprised its not dead lol, Sort out your heating first then leave it to settle for a few days in the corect conditions and try again

Also whats your set up like send some piccys
