Default Tiger legs, fire legs and other centipedes

Hi everyone,

Time for me to introduce some new centipedes! They arrived recently and are definitely stunning! Enjoy...

Scolopendra subspinipes dehaani Hong Kong. Very light colors.

Scolopendra subspinipes sp tiger legs

Scolopendra subspinipes sp fire legs. Similar to the tiger legs but without the stripes on the legs.

Scolopendra subspinipes mutilans, the only subspinipes known to be communal. Smaller than the others (3 to 5 inches) but quick as hell!

Yes, they are definitely venomous and real escape artists... But they are fascinating too!

However, there are only 3/4 actual reported deaths since the 1930's due to centipedes bites in the world compared to thousands of ppl getting bitten every year. For example, there is one known case in Turkey while there are 5000 reported bites a year in that country alone.

Basically, if you are sensitive to the venom, you are at risk. The potency of the venom is about the same as the one of a hornet (a few hundreds bites are necessary to kill a healthy adult human).

The BIG difference is the level of pain of the bite (extremely painful for a couple of hours to 12 hours) and the behavior of the cretaure. Centipedes are very fast and quick to bite. Not the kind of animals you free handle...

As for the escape artist thinggy, they can cut plastic given the time and enough grip on the material. I keep them in plastic tub or glass jar and i never had any problem... but i would not give them any chance to place both fangs in air holes... that s an invitation to escape!

Cheers!

Mika

Very nice once more Mika!
I notice your 'for sale' has increased..
If you want, il buy one of each of the pedes you have for sale..
Just got back from a road trip, getting paid sometime in the next week or two so ill be able to sort all the dosh then.... if you dont mind waiting

>>In fact, if you have them, il grab a few yellowlegs mutilans from ya<<
Best Regards
Cam
