Default maggots/mealies instead of pinheads? advice please

after hearing how difficult it is to keep pinheads alive i was wondering if its ok to feed my chile rose slings maggots or mealies as a suitable alternative? if so then how many would they need each feed? sorry if its a dumb question but im a newbie keeper

I'd say both are good so long as in the case of maggies they arn't dyed, ol Ray G used to swear by using maggots as a cheap and nutritious food source and they did not seem to harm his breeding success one bit, and myself iv seen no problems I can think of using well fed mealworms as spider food.

I use small mealies with my g.rosea slings. mainly cos i breed them myself.

I find just pop one in and you are fine for a week really, they seem to dessicate it over time.

never had a prob and raised lots of slings in my time.

thankyou both very much. looks like it will be these alternatives then as i think it would be a waste to buy a box of pinheads just for 2 slings .

Only problem's I found with maggot's is unless you have a frendly fishing tackle shop that will give you a few you end up with way to many to use before they turn and you have to chill them right down so they dont just burrow under the substrate as soon as you put them in, apart from that though they loved them.

It is easier to buy a little pair of nail scissors for the job of cutting them up tbh

How small should they be cut up? Ive just got a tiny b vagans sling and tried feeding it yesterday with a small peice of a meal worm but because it wasnt moving she showed no interest whatsoever. How can I get her to eat them?
