Smile Map turtle set up

A bit for knowledge and answers before people ask

its a fluval 6 ft tank with 2 external fluval filters 4 fish that break down the turts poo and left over food and 2 sucker fish that eats the aglie and on the shell i clean the filter every 4 weeks and go round the tank do a total water change every 1 months and the plastic lid parts inbetween have been move now since i learnes that it helps and the lid parts can keep to much moister in their.

The sand work well but does go in filter their 8 high uv lights tube bulbs a heater in the water and a basking area which i made to fit with a laying area in it.

The big turt is 8.5 inches shell and the other 2 female are 6ince the bigger male is 5 the smaller one is 4 i've had no problem with the tank or turts in it just wont to point out this is only used in the colder part of the year they go in a pond for the hot part.

I feed them mussels and river shrimps and normal food, they never paid intreast in the fish i did put gold fish in before tho but because they are stupid fish they got eaten but theses are quiker and smarter so they can not catch them and the turts have calmed down now they have been in their for 4 months now.

Also this year i have had one lot of hatchilng of the big female already 12 baby's 13 eggs. that i sold and they also incubate for me the shop is called pythans lair in drayton, oxfordshire great shop

dont mind answering any qustions if their is any thanks for looking hope you like the pics

i moved all the other pic's from the other threads to this better in one i thing just trying to work out how to get rid of the the other threads

gorgeous cretures. How long can you take them out of the water for?

Most basking species will spend all day out of the water given the right conditions, ie hot sun or artificial equivalent, but "taking" them out of the water is not a good idea unless really neccessary, best to let them do their own thing and let them choose when and for how long.

Default turtle

the same as graham says don't need to be out the water these bask all the time.
but if you have to a good couple of hours but not recommended if need to put a wet towl or cloth with them for a bit of moisture mate

Default map turtle

Nice set up. How did you make your laying area? i need to make something like that. I'm trying to get a female map for my 3" male, also what type of fish do you have in your tank? I've got guppies in at the moment , but would like some other fish as well.

Smile turtle

the type of fish i have are angels sucking fish and others i got bigger ones because if i had smaller ones they may have been seen as food and the basking are i a large chopping board and telephone plastic covering and sealed thes around 2 side of the tank because the front is bowed and one long one to hold up the 3rd side and made a hole for the container to go in and left about an inch of water of board to keep dry
