Exclamation Help..i have inherited turtles and dont know what to do..

Hi, a friend of mine was desperate to get rid of turtles for her own reasons..to help her out i took them in..now i have no idea what to do with thm..i have become bessotted with them..male about a year old (4")female about nine months(3"), both YBS(i think). the Male appears to have settled well but the female seems quiet if that makes sense...they came in a 2ft tank which i intend to change for a bigger one asap...what i cant seem to figure out is how much swimming space to basking space do they need as they dont seem to swim much..also the females redish shell seems to have a chalky appearance on the very top and i cant remember if it came like that..the previous owner had been feeding them pond food but i have got them some turtle food... i have spent my christmas resarching the right thing to do but opinion sems to vary so much..what do i need..how big a tank do i need immediatley; what ratio do i need of basking area to swimming area..how do i make them happy..please help me to help them . Thank you, Tracy *_*

You've posted this in the photos section, as Stuart says if you put it in Shelled, or if one of the mods could move it there, then you'll get more answers.

In the meantime if you go to the Shelled section you'll find a sticky that explains tank sizes and filtration. If yours are YBS then they need as much water as you can provide as they are very good swimmers, they also spend a lot of time basking so they need the correct lighting and temps, but they don't need a very large basking area.

It should be big enough that they can choose where to sit so they can regulate their temperature, other than that they won't move around much, they'll just pick their spot and lay there.

You can find a good basic slider caresheet here The Terrapin Tank • View topic - USA Sliders
