Default advise please??

Hi guys, wondered if you could help me?

i have a map turtle (he i think) is just under a year old. i got a new massive 4ft tank and wondered if i can get another to put in same breed. would it be safe? is it possible?

This is the photo section that you're posting in, you should really be posting this in the main Shelled section and starting your own thread.

What is the volume of your tank? That's the important thing, it could be 4 feet long and as little as 100 litres, or it could be 4 times that or more depending on the width and depth, and it's the vloume that will determine whether it's big enough for another turt, or indeed the one that you already have.

There are a couple of potential problems with adding a second turt, if yours is male then there's the risk of territorial aggression with another male, if yours is male and you got a female then she'd most likely be pestered incessantly by him, you really want a minimum of two females to one male, preferably more, but then your tank would probably be too small for them all!

Apart from finding the volume of your tank, the first thing you need to do is to sex your existing turt and then take things from there.

Oh sorry i didnt realise! im new here so i thought i could write on here!

thats great help thank you! i do think it is a male as by the statements on some sites where they say males have bigger feet/claws and have longer tails which it looks like with mine. he's a very friendly one. would i have to get one the same age if i decide to get one? a younger one wouldn't be advised? sorry for all the questions!! lol.
